Job Description

Great Lakes Academy is hiring an Elementary Paraprofessional for the 26/27 School Year to join the team. Great Lakes Academy is a K - 8th grade public charter school located in Pontiac. The academy has been serving the community for more than 20 years. Great Lakes Academy is built around the shared vision of educating children in a safe and nurturing environment. Job Summary :
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist teachers in providing support to students, helping to create a positive and productive learning environment. This role is essential in fostering academic growth and ensuring that all students have the resources they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities :
Essential Duties:
Assist teachers with the preparation and implementation of instructional materials, resources, and classroom activities. Provide instructional assistance under the supervision of the classroom Teacher. Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in various subjects. Support students with special needs and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) under the direction of the classroom Teacher. Help with classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment. Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and other educational staff. Supervise students during non-instructional times (e.g., recess, lunch). Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents regarding student progress and needs. Maintain confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information. Assist in the preparation and delivery of instructional plans. Support student assessment Regular and predictable attendance
Cognitive Demands:
Supervise multiple students at once Provide instructional assistance to students in an individual or small group setting Ability to maintain a safe and orderly environment for students Participate in continuous professional development Effective oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands:
Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds Stand and walk frequently Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year Assist/lift students if necessary Withstand a moderate noise level
Qualifications :
Completed at least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or obtained an associate's degree from an accredited institution; or meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate knowledge through passage of an approved formal state academic assessment. Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
