Special Education Paraprofessional Job Description March 2023 Immediate Supervisor Student Support Services Coordinator Work Day Student Contact Days, Following the KCS Calendar 7:15a-2:45pm FLSA Status Non-exempt Position Summary Assists and supports students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as directed by the special education teacher. Basic Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates continued professional growth through participation in workshops, seminars, conferences, inservice opportunities, and/or coursework or other educational opportunities. Advances the mission and vision of Kaleidoscope Charter School (KCS). Treats all staff, students, families, and visitors with dignity and respect. Treats all student and staff information with care, complying with relevant state and federal rules about data privacy and data practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities In the Classroom Assists instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises. Discusses assigned areas with teachers to coordinate instructional efforts and any associated curriculum. Monitors and assists students through drill, practice, and study activities following the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel. Prepares and plans various teaching aids, such as charts, graphs, cards, and worksheets. Assists in teaching self-help socialization skills; tutors students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activities. Operates learning aids and video equipment. Student Supervision Fosters students' self-advocacy and independence skills. Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities and field trips. Assists in the management and shaping of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies. Assists students with behavior management to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe environment. Assists students with organizational and functional skills to build towards independence. Assumes responsibility for supervising profoundly disabled students; utilizes basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings. Attends to students' physical and personal needs, when indicated under supervision. Operates equipment; performs specialized physical health care services when indicated under the direction of the teacher or school health care staff. Updates the special education teachers on student progress as often as requested/directed. Assists in maintaining individual records on student progress. Work Requirements and Characteristics Education and Experience Skills Required School experience, preferred Associate's (or higher) degree or two years of higher education OR Completion of the ParaPro Exam Skills in oral and written communication. Ability to assess the needs of children. Ability to implement KCS policies, procedures, and standards; ability to communicate clearly, orally or in writing. Maintain complete and accurate records. Professionally interact with all members of the community. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders. Prioritize and schedule work tasks. Complete tasks within established deadlines. Ability to manage time effectively. Produce quality, accurate work. Ability to manage time effectively.
