Job Description

JOB POSITION
- Early Childhood Teacher Aide (Non-Exempt)
JOB SUMMARY
The Early Childhood Teacher Aide will assist the Lead Teacher with instructional and non-instrictional activities as necessary for ensuring the academic and social-emotional growth and spiritual development of all children in their care. The Teacher Aides are responsible for knowing state licensing standards and will work to comply with them at all times. As part of the St. John's staff, this teacher will work collegially with other staff members of St. John's Lutheran Church & School. The duties and responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of the Lead Teacher and the Director. The Teacher Aide may be full or part-time, is paid on an hourly basis, with possible eligibility for benefits depending on the number of hours scheduled.
QUALIFICATIONS A
deeply committed Christian faith, a genuine spirituality, and a humble spirit. Experience working with children or teaching in a Christian day school, LCMS preferred. The ability to work as a team player, supporting and encouraging other staff. Must complete and pass a thorough background screening.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This position reports to the Director of Early Learning. Annually reviewed by the Board of Personnel with input from appropriate staff and leadership.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Assist the lead teacher in implementing curriculum, understanding the physical, social, emotional, language, cognitive, and creative development of young children. Help establish and maintain physically and psychologically safe and healthy learning environments for the children in his/her care. Exhibit a genuine nurturing, caring attitude to all children. Relate student learning to the Christian objectives of the church and school. Maintain effective Christian discipline in the classroom. Provide supervision at all times, including playground, lunchroom, hallway, and bathrooms, as required under Minnesota Administrative Rules, Chapter 9503. Be familiar with the lead teacher's written lesson plans, the daily schedule, and all other daily duties of the lead teacher, and be willing to fulfill these duties in their absence. Establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with all families. Assist the Lead Teacher with classroom instructional tasks as assigned. Work with students individually and in small groups to assist with the learning of content and skills introduced by the Lead Teacher. Assist the Lead Teacher with clerical work, record keeping, and preparation of instructional materials, set up of Preschool centers, preparation of displays and bulletin boards, and other non-instructional tasks as assigned. Assist the Lead Teacher and students with cleanup before and after activities such as snack, art, etc. Accompany and assist the Lead Teacher in supervision on approved instructional field trips. Maintain the safe and orderly arrangement of materials and equipment within the classroom. Assist children with preparing for moving to other classrooms, school activities, outside activities, and arrival and departure from school. Help children with clothing, grooming, health habits, and bathroom activities. Be familiar with trauma definitions and understand children's response systems and behaviors are impacted by trauma. Communicate to the Lead Teacher any unusual situations or needs of students and comply with reporting requirements for abuse and neglect specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 626.556. Assist the lead teacher in handling interruptions and emergencies. Participate in on-going professional development opportunities provided by St. John's, as required by Minnesota Administrative Rules, Chapter 9503. Assist in ensuring that all DHS Rule standards are maintained in the classroom at all times. Actively participate in center events, staff meetings, and other meetings as requested by the Early Childhood Director. Assist with special school programs, religious services, and other projects as directed. In accordance with our 'team' philosophy, the person filing this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description. Maintain a positive, calm attitude and a soft voice, and encourage this attitude and voice in others working in the classroom. Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with the teachers, volunteers, and parents in planning and implementing activities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS A
Teacher Aide is frequently required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat or crawl. May require the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40 pound child. Compensation/Additional Details:
Starting Pay:
$14.00 (additional compensation opportunities may be available)
Type:
Part-time OR Full-time. Core available hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00 p.m. Staff in this role are also expected to work either morning (7:00-9:00 am) or evenings (4:00-6:00 pm) shifts as needed, with schedules assigned on a rotating basis.
Days/Hours:
M-F 9:00am-4:00pm with either mornings (7am-9am) and evenings (4pm-6pm) hours.
