Job Summary The Department of Corrections is hiring a Corrections Teaching Assistant at our St. Cloud facility! This position exists to provide support and assistance to Special Teachers in the delivery of literacy; English Language Learning; secondary credential; post-secondary preparation; concurrent and contextualized literacy, and/or other adult basic education (ABE) instruction in a well-managed and comprehensive learning environment to support students' Personal Education Plans The position is located at a Minnesota Correctional Facility and will have contact with students who are incarcerated. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To be qualified for and considered for this position, ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Experience in an educational or office setting Ability to effectively operate office equipment Experience using email, calendar, presentation, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office or similar) Ability to read, speak, and write in English Ability to tutor students in reading, writing, math, and educational technology Skills in records management sufficient to gather and maintain statistical and other data for reporting purposes Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully with a diverse population Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position: Completion of an Associate's degree or higher Experience and skill in educational program platforms sufficient to monitor and manage a computer lab Classroom experience, including teaching, conducting training classes/workshops, and/or tutoring Experience working in an educational setting Experience working in a correctional setting Physical Requirements The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position and may be required to complete a tuberculosis screening prior to hire. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation. Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records. New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
