- Full-time The Shared Paraprofessional supports students across classrooms and grade levels (K-8) by assisting with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
This role is flexible and responsive, working under the direction of case managers and classroom teachers to ensure students can access instruction and be successful throughout the school day. The ideal candidate is patient, adaptable, and able to build strong relationships while supporting a variety of student needs. Provide academic support in reading, writing, and math under teacher direction Assist students in accessing classroom instruction and completing tasks Support students with organization, transitions, and engagement mplement behavior strategies and support plans (BIP/PBSP) as directed Assist with de-escalation and help students regulate emotions Reinforce positive behaviors and expectations Maintain a calm, consistent, and supportive presence Assist in multiple classrooms as needed throughout the day Support small groups or individual students Help maintain a structured and positive learning environment Work closely with special education teachers, general education teachers, and staff Communicate student needs, progress, and concerns with team members Participate in team meetings or check-ins as appropriate Additional Duties Assist with supervision (hallways, lunch, transitions, recess) Support classroom organization and materials Follow all school policies and procedures Qualifications High school diploma required; Para certification; associate's degree or higher preferred Experience working with children or in a school setting is preferred Experience supporting students with behavioral or special education needs is a plus Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to remain calm and flexible in a fast-paced environment Skills & Attributes Patient, supportive, and relationship-focused Able to follow direction and implement strategies consistently Flexible and adaptable to changing needs Strong problem-solving and communication skills Commitment to equity and working with diverse student populations Work Environment The Journey School is a K-8 charter school focused on building strong relationships and supporting the whole child. Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Support Provide direct 1:1 support to a student throughout the school day Assist the student in accessing classroom instruction and completing tasks Support transitions between activities and environments Behavioral Support Implement behavior support strategies as outlined in the student's plan Use proactive strategies such as pre-correction, structured routines, and clear expectations Support the student in using coping and regulation strategies Provide calm, private redirection during times of dysregulation Emotional & Social Support Help the student identify emotions and respond appropriately Support positive peer interactions and conflict resolution Encourage appropriate communication and problem-solving skills Safety & Supervision Monitor student behavior to ensure safety of all students and staff Follow school protocols during behavioral escalations Support movement to designated areas when needed Collaboration & Communication Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and administration Collect and share basic behavior and engagement data Participate in team meetings as needed Qualifications Experience working with children preferred (school or related setting) Experience with behavioral support or special education strongly preferred Ability to remain calm and consistent in high-stress situations Strong communication and teamwork skills Willingness to learn and implement behavior support strategies What We're Looking For Patient, supportive, and consistent Strong relationship-builder with students Able to follow direction and work as part of a team Comfortable working with students with behavioral challenges Committed to helping students succeed This role is essential for creating an inclusive educational environment where all students can thrive.
