To Be Determined Job Description The ISS/Recovery Room Paraprofessional provides supervision and instructional facilitation for students assigned to the ISS/Recovery Room at our alternative K-12 school__Lewis & Clark Academy. This position is 179 days per year with 7.5 hours daily. Full time position comes with district-paid health insurance. Hours for the building are 7:30-3:00. Requires a minimum of 36 credit hours issued by an accredited college or university or must complete the online Frontline course in order to be eligible for and hold a Missouri substitute certificate or a Missouri teaching certificate. The ideal candidate will be adept at building positive relationships with students, experienced at implementing effective classroom management strategies, and able to assist students with a variety of coursework and to help them process their behaviors in order to develop positive behavioral and/or social skills. Purpose Statement The job of Paraprofessional - ISS/Recovery Room is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for overseeing students referred to the Recovery Room; maintaining a safe and quiet environment; assisting students in assessing their behavior; and providing information to teachers, parents and/or other personnel. This job reports to the Principal Essential Functions Assists students with Recovery Room positive actions (e.g. think sheets, letter of apologies, student success plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring actions are completed. Attends meetings (e.g. team, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. Compiles data for the purpose of preparing reports. Maintains confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. time sheets, student success plans, Recovery visits, etc.) for the purpose of providing accurate information in compliance with established administrative guidelines. Monitors students during assigned periods (e.g. Recovery Room, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Prepares written documents and reports (e.g. monthly and yearly reports, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers, parents, and administration. Provides verbal and/or written feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teacher/s and/or parents of students' progress. Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines. Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, and/or parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE
is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: behavior and crisis management techniques; instruction techniques; and stages of child development. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions; communicating in a positive, non-threatening manner; and building effective relationships. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 40% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
