Job Summary The School of Humanities at The University of Southern Mississippi seeks to hire a Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of English for the 2026-2027 academic year. The teaching load is 4/4 and consists mostly of first-year writing instruction. In addition, faculty may have opportunities to teach advanced undergraduate composition courses and introductory courses in literature. This is a full-time appointment and begins August 2026. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Teach four undergraduate English courses per semester in a mix of face-to-face and online formats according to program needs Perform all duties related to successful teaching, including holding regular office hours, returning graded work on time, etc Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Candidate must have a Master's degree in English or an MFA in Creative Writing and have prior teaching experience at the university level in English Composition. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of computers and appropriate teaching technologies. Preferred Qualifications PhD in English by the time of appointment to be hired as Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor.
