Job Description

Overview The Special Education Paraprofessional plays a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs within the classroom environment. This position involves working closely with teachers and other educational staff to facilitate the learning process for students with disabilities, including those with autism and developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong love for working with children, a passion for education, strong communication skills, and experience in working with elementary school children. Responsibilities 95% Student Supervision and Support Responsibility Assist teachers in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. Support students in their daily activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment. Reinforce specialized program instruction and support for elementary children with Communication, emotional / behavioral regulation support needs. Provide physical elements of hygiene, bath rooming clothing, diapering, transfers, occupational therapy, feeding, and social skills Help manage classroom behavior and promote positive social interactions among students. Collaborate with teachers to develop and adapt curriculum materials that accommodate various learning styles. Provide one-on-one or small group instruction in literacy, math, and other subjects as needed. Foster communication skills by using techniques such as American Sign Language when necessary. Participate in classroom management and maintain an organized and engaging learning space. Document student progress and assist in evaluating educational outcomes. This description describes the general nature and work expected of an individual assigned to this position. Qualifications Experience working with children, particularly those with disabilities or special needs. Knowledge of childhood development and early childhood education principles. Familiarity with behavior management strategies and classroom management techniques. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff. Experience in lesson planning, curriculum development, and implementing educational activities. Background in special education or related fields is preferred; private school experience is a plus. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being able to take initiative when necessary. Operates equipment which may include computer, printer, copy machine, iPad, Chromebook, etc. Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all learners.
