ASSOCIATE TEACHER

Salary range $26,000

• 42,940 based on years of experience, NC Health Plan, NC Retirement Plan, paid time off, Employee Assistance Program, free childcare for ages 5-14, employee-paid supplemental benefit options.

Organization Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Evergreen Community Charter School is a tuition-free, public school serving approximately 450 students in grades K-8. Position Description Work collaboratively with lead teachers in classrooms of 26 students each in middle grades. Some opportunities for teaching small, differentiated groups of students. Lead "Crew" group of 10-13 students facilitating team initiatives and character development. Assist with classroom management and instruction, supervise lunch and recess, arrange logistics and drive on field trips, communicate with parents, and cover for lead teacher in the event of the lead's absence. Clerical duties include preparing of materials, and record keeping. Good rapport with students, strong organizational and communication skills, consistent behavior management, and a commitment to experiential education are essential. Some associates are licensed, beginning teachers who find that this year of on-the-job "apprenticeship" paves the way for a successful transition to lead teaching. Self-starter professionals with passion, flexibility, high expectations, and a sense of adventure are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of college courses in education. Demonstrated expertise working with groups of students, preferably in a classroom setting. Lived experience that supports connections with groups of students who have diverse racial and ethnic identities. Skills/interests in one or more of the following areas: differentiated instruction, social justice, environmental literacy, character education, and service learning.
