Category Schools - Paraprofessional Job Type Contract Paraprofessional needed near Asheville, NC! Step into a fulfilling, full-time contract role supporting middle school students in a Sustained Support room, primarily working with those on the autism spectrum. This position provides an opportunity to make a tangible difference every day by offering crucial guidance and care to students who benefit from behavioral support and individualized assistance.
Key Qualifications:
Prior experience as a paraprofessional or similar support staff in a school environment Background supporting autistic students or those with behavioral needs strongly preferred Genuine interest in working with middle school-aged youth Calm, patient, and compassionate approach to student engagement Capability to follow educational plans and implement behavior intervention strategies as directed by teachers and specialists Comfortable collaborating with educators and participating in team meetings
Responsibilities:
Assist students one-on-one and in small groups, tailoring support to individual strengths and growth areas Provide proactive behavioral support in both structured and unstructured settings Reinforce academic content under the guidance of classroom teachers and special education faculty Track student progress, share observations, and participate in planning for learning and behavioral goals Help create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and safe Support students in navigating daily routines and transitions throughout the school day This role allows you to foster meaningful student relationships and be a key partner in their academic and social-emotional development.
