Job Description:
The Beginning Teacher and Instructional Support Specialist coordinates district beginning teacher support, retention, school improvement, and student support initiatives to strengthen educator effectiveness, leadership development, and student success. This position leads beginning teacher induction, support and mentoring programs, supports aligned systems that improve instructional practices and school performance, and collaborates with school and district leaders to build sustainable support structures, guide continuous improvement, and advance district priorities.
Terms of Employment:
12 month position
Minimum Qualifications:
North Carolina educator licensure required. Master's degree in educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, or related field required. Minimum of five years successful education experience required. Experience in beginning teacher support, instructional coaching, professional development, school improvement, and educational leadership preferred. Strong knowledge of instructional best practices, teacher development, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and school improvement processes. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to analyze data and apply findings to improve educator and student outcomes.

Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction; Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate and oversee the district's beginning teacher induction, mentoring, and professional growth program. Design and implement systems that strengthen beginning teacher effectiveness, leadership capacity, and retention. Collaborate with school leaders to align support structures that improve teacher development and long-term success. Monitor program effectiveness and refine systems to strengthen educator growth and retention. Facilitate professional development aligned to beginning teacher needs, district priorities, and state requirements. Ensure compliance with state and local beginning teacher program policies and guidelines. Support district and school improvement efforts through aligned instructional and student support systems. Collaborate with leaders and educators to strengthen instructional practices, interventions, and school performance. Build educator and leadership capacity through coaching, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Use data to guide decision-making and implementation of district priorities. Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of school improvement initiatives. Support MTSS, instructional frameworks, and intervention systems to improve student outcomes. Partner with administrators, instructional staff, and district leaders to align support systems across schools. Provide coaching, guidance, and technical assistance to school teams. Support strategic planning, program evaluation, and implementation of district initiatives. Promote educator leadership development and capacity-building opportunities. Perform additional duties as assigned by district leadership.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of beginning teacher induction, mentoring, retention, and professional growth systems. Strong understanding of instructional practices, curriculum implementation, MTSS, school improvement planning, and student support systems. Ability to analyze and apply data to improve educator effectiveness, school performance, and student outcomes. Ability to coordinate and facilitate professional development, coaching, and leadership development opportunities. Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build productive relationships with educators, administrators, and stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain documentation, and support strategic initiatives. Proficiency with educational technology, data systems, and program management tools. Ability to exercise sound judgment, strategic planning, and effective problem-solving. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to travel within and outside the district for school support and professional development. Ability to facilitate meetings, training sessions, and school-based support activities. Regular use of technology for communication, data analysis, and program management. Must be adaptable to performing under stress. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force constantly to move objects as needed.
