Position Summary:
The assistant teacher is a full-time position, for 35.5 hours a week for mid-August - June. Summer camp opportunities are available. The assistant teacher is a warm, friendly and supportive with children while at the same time, sharing Maria Montessori's respect for the satisfaction small children take from all they are able to do and to learn for themselves. The assistant teacher works closely with 2 lead teachers to create and maintain a calm environment in the classroom.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
  • Assists the lead teachers in implementing daily classroom activities and events guided by the Montessori Primary philosophy: oInteracts in a respectful and caring manner with the children. oMaintains a clean and safe environment for the children through general housekeeping. oSupervises the children in the classroom and playground.
  • Communicates well and frequently with the lead teachers.
  • Assumes responsibility from the lead teachers for the care of the environment, plus care and storage of the materials.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, and whole school events throughout the year
