Hudson NY Assistant Teacher Job Description:
The Early Childhood Center at Temple Beth Shalom is currently accepting applications for support (assistant) teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a part time position with morning hours 8am-12:30pm Monday through Friday with the option to extend to 2:30pm. The ECC at TBS is a vibrant, creative and nurturing preschool program in the heart of Hastings on Hudson, NY. Our school is an incredibly important piece of our congregation's history and future, as it is our belief that supporting children and families in today's world will lead to stronger communities. Our ECC is a developmentally appropriate high quality program which provides a rich early learning experience based on Jewish values and traditions. Our classrooms utilize a play-based and process learning approach in creating and implementing activities that promote constructive learning. All of our teachers are highly engaged, committed and passionate about working with children. As a faculty, we are dedicated life-long learners, focused on continued education and evolving our program to meet the needs of our children. Our program supports a Team Teaching model, which means all of our teachers are collaborators and enjoy working closely with others. Dedicated to working with children, connecting with children, and committed to their social-emotional growth and development. Enjoys working in a team setting, requiring collaboration, communication and respect (no job too big, or too small!) Support the lead teacher in designing engaging and innovative plans/curriculum. Interest in nature play and gardening. Tech-savvy and able to support lead teacher in management of our parent communication app, Bloomz, create Google sign-ups and spreadsheets, explore new avenues for communication, and manage media and photos of the classroom (assist in photo/video editing a plus)
Minimum Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience working with young children in a childcare, school, or other related setting. High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood education, child development, psychology, sociology or related field highly preferred. Meet New York State Office of Early Childhood (OEC) requirements for teaching in an early childhood learning center. Maintain CPR, first aid, administration of medication and epi pen certificates or willingness to acquire them per OEC regulations. Background check, fingerprinting, and other clearance per OEC regulations.
Strong English communication skills:
oral, written, reading, and writing Ability and willingness to work in a teaching team and collaborate with support teachers, specialists, coaches, and consultants Ability to actively participate in children's play and care including being on your feet for long periods of time, frequent reaching, running, and sitting on the floor in small chairs.
