Job Description

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Early Childhood Assistant Teachers for the 2026-27 School Year to support our team in providing high-quality early childhood education to young children. As an Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with the lead teacher to create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment where children can thrive and develop essential skills. About the School Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor. Responsibilities include : Assist the lead teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that support the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. Monitor children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Help maintain a clean, organized, and child-friendly classroom environment. Provide one-on-one support and assistance to children as needed, including helping with activities, reinforcing positive behavior, and addressing individual learning needs. Assist in observing and documenting children's progress, behavior, and developmental milestones. Maintain accurate records and contribute to assessments and reports for parent communication and program evaluation. Work collaboratively with the lead teacher and other team members to plan and implement engaging and enriching learning experiences for children. Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administrators. Participate in training sessions, workshops, and other professional development Promote good health and hygiene practices among children. Assist with meal/snack times, diapering/toileting routines, and other daily care tasks as needed. Support students in their social emotional growth and development. Collaborate with other educational team members to provide a balanced and comprehensive educational experience. Attend faculty meetings, seek out professional development, and contribute to the overall school community. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (preferred). Previous experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare center, or similar setting (preferred). Knowledge of early childhood development principles and best practices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions from lead teachers and supervisors. Hebrew language a plus Salary range for this role is $35,000-$45,000, depending upon education and experience.
