Assistant Teacher at Elementary School PS 9 Sarah Anderson School - 4.0 New York, NY Job Details Part-time $19 an hour 2 hours ago Qualifications Bachelor of Science Administrative experience Education Bachelor's degree Working with students Classroom experience Full Job Description A highly successful public elementary school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan is seeking applicants to intern as assistant teachers (one assistant teacher per classroom in kindergarten to grade 5). This paid internship will start on September 9, 2026 and will end on June 28, 2027. Work hours are between 8:00 am to 2:50 pm every day that school is in session, requiring 30 hours per week. These hours are not flexible and all work must be performed in-person. The pay is $19 per hour. Health benefits are not provided with this position. This internship provides invaluable classroom experience to individuals looking to start a career in education. Assistant teachers work under the direct guidance of a veteran teacher. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, providing one-on-one and small group support after a lesson has been delivered, conferencing with children to track progress over time, teaching small group lessons, supporting children socially and emotionally, and completing administrative tasks. Although this internship is for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year, it is possible to continue the internship through the following school year as well (2027-2028). Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in or having completed a graduate education program. Current graduate school students can complete fieldwork hours and/or student teaching hours simultaneously while working as an assistant teacher. Consideration will also be given to applicants with an undergraduate degree in education or who have had other related elementary education experience. Candidates with no experience with school-aged children will not be considered. Candidates who have not graduated from college with a BA/BS will not be considered. Please note, this is not a Department of Education "teaching assistant" or paraprofessional job posting.
