JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting the Special Education Teacher with the educational program of assigned classroom and/or students to facilitate the development and active involvement of the children throughout the school day.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Support the implementation of the educational program for the assigned child, ensuring active participation in classroom activities including daily activities as directed by classroom teacher and/or student's therapy team. Follow the lesson plan as designed by the Teacher to meet the individual special needs of each child they've been assigned to. Assist in observing and evaluating the child's progress, as directed by the teacher and other professionals. Contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy classroom environment. Participate in the planning and preparation of the classroom, including cleaning and care of equipment and materials in accordance with NYS federal, state, local and agency guidelines. Provide translation services between teachers and families if . Actively participate in classroom team meetings to support collaboration and effective communication. Perform other relevant duties and functions as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum age of 18 years; H.S Diploma or H.S. equivalency required. Associate's Degree preferred. NYSED certification as a Teacher Assistant required.
License/Certification:
TA Certification- Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 (Required)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Understanding of behavioral management techniques and child development principles. Ability to follow directions effectively.
Job Type:
Full-time Effective communication skills. Demonstrates a supportive, positive, and patient attitude. Proficiency in computer skills, including Word, Excel, Board maker, Google Meet, or Zoom. Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing needs in the program and classroom environment. Physical capability to supervise children outdoors and lift up to 50 pounds when necessary. Capacity to work collaboratively with children, parents, colleagues, and administration in both onsite and remote settings.
