Little Water Prep is a growing K-5 public charter school in Poughkeepsie, New York, committed to providing a nurturing and academically rigorous environment for all students. Now serving over 300 students within the Poughkeepsie City School District, we continue to grow as a community grounded in strong systems, meaningful relationships, and measurable results.Job Summary:
The Associate Teacher at Little Water Prep plays a critical role in supporting high-quality instruction and a strong classroom culture. Working closely with the Lead Teacher and grade-level team, the Associate Teacher assists in delivering instruction, reinforcing learning, and ensuring all scholars are engaged and supported. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education and interested in developing their teaching practice while contributing to a structured, supportive, and joyful learning environment.Key Responsibilities Instructional Excellence:
Support the Lead Teacher in delivering standards-aligned lessons and small group instruction Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning and provide targeted support Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, resources, and classroom activities Implement teacher-directed strategies to support differentiation and meet diverse student needs Use engagement strategies, including Total Participation Techniques (TPT), to support active learningClassroom Management and Culture:
Help to establish and maintain a structured, positive, and affirming classroom environment Build strong relationships with students rooted in respect, empathy, and high expectations Implement restorative practices and positive behavior supports Foster a safe, inclusive, and joyful classroom culture Follow all school safety protocols to ensure physical and emotional safetyData-Driven Instruction:
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning Analyze data to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies Collaborate with colleagues to plan targeted interventions and enrichment Support implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)Collaboration and Professional Growth:
Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), team meetings, and professional development Collaborate with instructional leaders and colleagues to improve practice Set professional goals, seek feedback, and engage in continuous reflection Contribute to school improvement initiatives, including pilots or action researchFamily and Community Engagement:
Build strong relationships with families through consistent communication Provide regular updates on student academic and social-emotional progress Facilitate conferences and family engagement opportunitiesAdditional Responsibilities:
Model professionalism, a growth mindset, and commitment to the school's mission Participate in school-wide events and community-building activities Perform other duties as assignedPhysical and Logistical Requirements:
Work extended hours as needed for events or programming Lift and carry up to 20 pounds (e.g., materials, student work) Navigate stairs and move between floors as needed Maintain consistent, on-site attendance during school hours and eventsQualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's preferred) Valid New York State Teaching certification (or in progress of) Minimum of 2 years teaching experience (elementary preferred; charter experience a plus) Strong instructional, classroom management, and student engagement skills Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high student achievement Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Experience using data to inform instruction Commitment to continuous professional growthCompensation:
Salary Range:
$45,000 - $55,000 (commensurate with experience) Benefits include: health, dental, paid time off, retirement options, and professional development Compensation is based on qualifications, experience, and certificationsPay:
