Job Description:
SUMMARY Provides academic support in various subjects for participants of the TRIO Student Support Services program. Works directly with students assisting in one-to-one, small group, and classroom settings. Monitors, tracks, and evaluates the learning and progress of participants to promote student success. Supports the Program's objectives and initiatives as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conducts one-to-one and small group tutoring in math, science and general studies subject areas. Diagnoses student tutorial needs; Evaluates participant progress resulting from tutoring. Assists in the development of educational action plans. Develops and implements supplemental curricula, materials and instruction for basic skills courses. Conducts educational workshops. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of student progress and tutoring sessions. Works with and/or demonstrates various types of audio-visual materials, computer applications, and other materials or delivery systems used in an instructional program. Facilitates the learning process by conducting workshops and presentations for students enrolled in high-risk courses. Meets with faculty regarding student progress and course content/materials, as needed. Assists in the recruitment and retention of program students. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
Bachelor's degree in math, science or a related field. Minimum of two years of experience working directly with underprepared post-secondary students in an academic environment. Demonstrated previous success in motivating and encouraging students. Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and
ABILITIES
Possess basic knowledge of fundamental Mathematic/English/Science concepts with the ability to apply in various situations. Demonstrated knowledge of exemplary instructional methods and practices. Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail. Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment. Ability to work in a fast-paced and high volume and service environment. Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships. Ability to utilize critical thinking to identify and implement efficiencies within daily operations. Possess knowledge and ability to effectively and appropriately interact with students with varying linguistic and cultural backgrounds at the post-secondary level. Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of students and the community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree. Demonstrated teaching experience. Demonstrated experience working or participating in TRIO or related programs. Possess strong competency in Microsoft Office. Demonstrated experience with the implementation of supplemental instruction or collaborative learning groups. Experience with student tracking databases (such as BANNER, BLUMEN, etc.)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type.

However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, Grade 10, with a
Minimum Hiring Rate of:
$24.00/ hour.
