Early Childhood Education Director Basic Function:
Under supervision, perform services and duties necessary to provide total care for children from infants. Enhance children's development and provide a safe pace for children to engage in activities.
Responsibilities:
Under direction ensure that the activities of this program are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Merrick House. Actively supervises and insures the safety and well-being of the children at all times. Responsive to the needs of the children as individuals and as a group. Prepare weekly lesson plans based on the Creative Curriculum and aligning activities to the Ohio Early Learning & Development Standards (OELDS). Conduct age appropriate assessments as required and make referrals as needed. Prepare daily activity sheets for the parents summarizing their child's day. Keep the classroom, materials, storage rooms neat, clean, and in proper order. All harmful materials and equipment must be kept out of the reach of children. Responsible for preparing bulletin boards, displaying children's art work and dictation, allowing the materials to be relevant and at the children's eye level. Ensure that the arrangement of the classroom is developmentally appropriate and conducive to learning. Materials in the classroom must be rotated on a regular basis. Responsible for preparing breakfast, lunch, and P.M. snack for the children, taking meal counts and returning all bottles, dishes, cups, utensils, etc. to the kitchen after each meal. Coordinate parent/teacher conferences twice a year. Maintain inventory of all baby foods and inform the ECE Director when food needs to be purchased. Responsible for sanitizing the tables and chairs and sweeping the floor after each meal, and all activities. Clean and sanitize cribs and toys on a weekly/daily basis. At the end of each day vacuum the rugs, sweep the floor and take the trash out. Responsible for attending all health and safety trainings including an additional 30 hours of training every two years in accordance with Step-Up to Quality Guidelines. Attends regular staff meetings, evaluations, parent/teacher conferences, center function etc. as required. Maintains open communication with management regarding the needs of the classroom, children, and parents, including illness, behavior, and other circumstances that might affect the Center. Responsible for completing assigned tasks and paperwork. Must report any suspicions of child abuse or neglect. Attend trainings and meetings as instructed. Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Combination of education and experience normally represented by a High School Diploma Child Development Associate (CDA) or Associates Degree in ECE preferred. Must have 1 -3 years of related experience in an early childcare working with infants or toddlers. Current certification in first Aid and CPR (infant, child and adult), Child Abuse and Communicable Disease or attained within six (6) months from date of hire. Must be able to actively interact with preschool children by having good dexterity with ability to lift up to 40 pounds, push, pull, carry, climb, balance and kneel and the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and squat. Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to effectively and productively work with people of very diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. Must be well organized, detail oriented and have the ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to work independently from general instruction. Good working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software preferred. Physical examination by a licensed physician. Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
