Education:
High School Diploma or GED; Must hold an associate degree or have 2 years of post secondary education, or be a high school graduate and pass a PARAPRO or OGET test. 1) Meets the Tier 1 (Title 1) Paraprofessional Requirements (at least one of the following): Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education defined as completion of 48 hours of college coursework. Has obtained an associate's degree (or higher). Has taken and passed the WorkKeys test, ParaPro test, or the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET).
Education:
High School Diploma or GED. College hours helpful in meeting Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.
Training or experience required:
Meets Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.

Essential Job Functions:
Assists with instruction and activities for individuals or for groups as assigned by teacher. Assists with teaching units and small group rotations. Supervises students in instructional settings, off-campus activities and during non-instructional activities such as recess, assemblies, emergency drills, lunch periods, etc. On occasion may supervise students in teacher's absence. Prepares, creates, and/or adapts instructional materials as directed by teacher. Instructs gross and fine motor activities: art, music, games, unit teaching, reading stories, singing songs, etc. Prepares bulletin boards and other teaching aids. Assists students with assignments. Sets up and operates equipment for instructional purposes. Serves as chief source of information and assistance for substitute teachers. Assists teacher with student behavior management strategies. Responds appropriately to out of control students when necessary. Alerts teacher to special needs of students. Grades student work; records grades; takes attendance; completes necessary paperwork and other records for students. May assist students with personal care (diapering/toileting) needs. May assist with minor first aid. Performs housekeeping duties with classroom to ensure it is neat and clean. Washes dishes, disinfects toys, tables, defrosts freezer, etc. Prepares snacks for students. Assists students in feeding and demonstrates proper eating skills. Assists children to and from bus. Checks bags for notes. May assist with playground, hallroom, and cafeteria duties as needed. Operates photocopier, laminator and duplicator. May operate computer. Assists teacher in obtaining supplies necessary for scheduled activities: i.e. paints, brushes, construction paper, science supplies, etc. Assists teachers with compiling student's work to send home weekly in Thursday folders. Sends letters home to parents as required. Rides afternoon bus route supervising student behavior on the bus. Must maintain confidentiality at all times. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Successful performance of the job requires good customer service/people skills and to handle problems and provide information and technical assistance as requested. It requires complying with safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to staff or to students. It requires following school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns for staff. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving are critical to the success of the position.

Help manage the computerization of school district operations. Provide training and support to district staff in the use of administrative computer systems. Perform such tasks to the ultimate benefit of the educational program. An incumbent in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job.
