POSITION SUMMARY
The PreK Teaching Assistant at The Madeleine School assists the lead teacher in creating a faith and joy-filled learning environment where each student experiences a sense of belonging. They help guide young learners as they begin to understand the experience of school-based learning, develop new skills to navigate peer interactions, begin a literacy journey, and develop a love of learning through creative play. The teaching assistant is a caring, passionate, flexible educator who enjoys collaboration and is skilled at creating a safe, nurturing classroom environment. They have familiarity with developmentally appropriate practices and are actively pursuing their own professional learning.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
(include, but are not limited to): Be a role model and a witness to the Gospel of Christ, honor the dignity of the human person, and respect each life and our planet as a gift from God. Your main charge is to create an atmosphere in which the faith of each individual student as well as their intellectual, moral, and physical capacities are developed. Actively assist in preparation, collaboration, and instruction from 7:45am - 3:45pm daily. Assist with the implementation of prayer and reflection practices into your classroom routine and character and virtue education into the classroom curriculum. Assist with the differentiation of instruction to meet the needs of each student learner and to create an inclusive learning environment that engages intellectual diversity. Apply culturally responsive teaching practices in the classroom to foster belonging and inclusion. Effectively build relationships and utilize strengths-based communication with students, families, colleagues, supervisor(s), and Archdiocesan staff. Assist students with problem solving and conflict resolution. Encourage students to engage in independent critical thinking skills and to express original ideas. Create a faith-filled, joyful, play-based learning environment where students are actively engaged. Effectively communicate and collaborate with supervisor(s) and colleagues for the purpose of improving student achievement and building a positive working environment. Maintain professional growth and competence through participation in all professional development opportunities provided by the school and seek out new opportunities outside of the school that support professional growth and advancement of innovative educational practices. Help establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to provide a structured, accessible, positive, and productive learning community. Attend and actively participate in all faculty, parent, and other teaching and community-related meetings or events as assigned by the Principal. Assist with the planning and supervision of student activities, assemblies, liturgies, and other student events as assigned. Manage and maintain an inventory of classroom supplies, cleanliness, and organization of learning spaces.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry Must maintain annual training through the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care including Pediatric CPR/First Aid and Food Handlers Card Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Must complete a pre-employment background check and all Archdiocesan required training and certifications While performing this job, an employee is required to stand, walk, talk, sit, hear, and use repetitive motion of the hands/wrists for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to lift and move items up to 50 lbs. Must be able to respond effectively to emergency situations Work is primarily performed in a school setting. Employee is occasionally required to attend evening meetings or other special events and may oversee field trips
