Description The Assistant Group Leader supports the Group Leader/Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of care. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment while maintaining a positive attitude. Assisting the staff in planning and implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Assistant Group Leader observes and documents children's interests and progress and relays that information back to parents and staff. The AGL is responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Group Leader and the Program Liaison. This Position Reports to Program Liaison Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and implementation of curricular activities and encourage participation by children.
- Coordinate daily activities and supervise aides in the absence of the Group Leader.
- Maintain ratios and attendance at all times.
- Rotate site assignments as needed to cover staff absences and ensure proper staff-to-child ratios and smooth program operation.
- Serve as a substitute in classrooms and sites as assigned, maintaining consistency in program quality and expectations.
- Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintain structure, and support availability of classroom materials.
- Maintain frequent communication with parents through informal discussions and Parent communication app.
- Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
- Help ensure smooth daily transitions from school/home to the program.
- Follow all program policies and state regulations.
- Confirm contracted pick-up/drop-off times and inform families and administration when time is used outside of contracted hours for accurate billing in our parent communication app.
- Document all incidents/accidents and daily highlights in Parent communication app.
- Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement (Keystone STARS). Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum of 1-2 years of professional childcare or youth program experience.
- High energy and a positive, team-centered attitude.
- Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- Understanding of child development and positive behavior support.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Pediatric/Child CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must clear full background checks, including FBI fingerprints, state criminal history, ChildLine, and NSOR.
- Must pass all DPW-required health screenings.
- Must be available Monday through Friday within program hours (before and/or after school) and willing to float between sites and sub as needed.
Educational Requirements An assistant group leader shall have attained one of the following qualification levels: 1. A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field. 2. A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in § 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training). 3. A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children. 4. A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in § 3270.31(c). 5. A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children. 6. CDA or 6 hours of ECE credit preferred. Physical Requirements
