JOB SUMMARY
Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individuals or small groups of identified students in a classroom or other learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Possesses High School Diploma or Equivalency Assures compliance with Employment Eligibility, Criminal History Record, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and Physical Examination/TB Test Standard Demonstrates ability to meet "Highly Qualified" status under the No Child Left Behind legislation Associates Degree (or) Forty-eight post-secondary credits (or) Successful completion of District approved assessment Possesses experience working with children, including those with special needs, in an organized setting Possesses proficiency in the English language with strong oral and written communication skills Possesses ability to deal courteously and tactfully with school personnel and the public Possesses ability to operate a computer, associated software, and other office equipment as assigned Possesses ability to maintain high level of confidentiality Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others
KNOWLEDGE OF
Academic principles and practices Child development Basic subjects including: mathematics, science, social studies, grammar, spelling, language and reading Basic instructional methods, techniques and practices Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
The position holder must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. It is the responsibility of the employee to inform the District of any and all reasonable accommodations that will be required . Understands, relates and assists children with special needs Assists students in standardized and District testing Maintains student files and program records Reinforces instruction within individual or small groups of identified students, as directed by the teacher Monitors and oversees student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects Assists assigned teacher in implementation of student behavior plans, lesson plans and materials to meet student needs Assures student understanding of classroom rules and procedures Assists students in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects; answers questions and provides proper examples; presents a friendly attitude and provides general guidance Performs a variety of duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials, reports and documentation Provides classroom support to the teacher by setting up work areas and displays; distributes and collects paper, supplies and materials Communicates with school personnel to exchange information and to assist in resolving issues or concerns Maintains annual compliance with Chapter 14 requirements Maintains regular and timely attendance
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Reads books to students and assist with reading and writing activities as assigned Assists with ordering supplies as directed Assists with personal care, if necessary or in an emergency Complies with District health and safety regulations Attends meetings and training as assigned Performs related duties as assigned
