JOB DESCRIPTION FOR ASSISTANT TEACHER
In each classroom Assistant Teachers work cooperatively under the direction of the Lead Teacher. I. Assistant Teacher General Responsibilities Assist the Lead Teacher in developing age-appropriate curriculum and activities for the classroom. Be familiar with the background of each child including information from parents regarding home and family life and values, and specific needs or medical concerns. Work with volunteers, student teachers and substitutes. Be familiar with personnel policies, staff manual, Center history and structure, and the center's calendar. Learn about and be conversant in child development and early education by attending continuing education conferences, training and reading information provided by the center. Foster and maintain a professional relationship between parents and yourself. Be attentive to the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of the children. II. Daily responsibilities Attend to the physical needs of the children. Assist in the preparation and implementation of daily activities. Maintain the general appearance of classroom and playground by incorporating tasks into routines with children and by sharing upkeep with other staff. Ensure physical environment is safe and clean and report any problems to the Lead Teacher. III. Work Schedule and Salary Assist teachers work part-time or full-time hours depending on the classroom requirements. She/he may be asked to substitute in other classrooms or to stand in for the teachers in her/his absence. Salaries are set annually according to the FCCC salary scale and may include raises depending on the financial status of the Center. You are also expected to arrive to work on time, ready to begin. NO cell phones/ear buds while working.
