Job Description

About the position : The NYU Furman Center seeks a candidate with strong and proactive organizational and operational skills to help manage the Center's operations and administrative work, and assist with event planning, information management, and basic support for research and policy projects. The full-time Operations and Program Assistant will report to the Chief of Staff. They will work closely with our dynamic interdisciplinary team of lawyers, economists, urban planners, and other staff members. They may also assist with the NYU Furman Center's digital communications, website management, and outreach to partners and users. The Operations and Program Assistant will be exposed to a diverse range of urban and housing policy issues.
Responsibilities:
The Operations and Program Assistant will split their time between managing the Furman Center office and operations and assisting communications, operations, and research teams with logistics and outreach. This position presents a great opportunity to learn how a renowned research center functions and also to support cutting-edge projects related to important housing and public policy issues. The Operations and Program Assistant will: Serve as office manager: Supervise undergraduate student employees in day-to-day office duties, including email inbox, purchasing and tracking expenses, reimbursements, and payments, stocking supplies, troubleshooting IT issues, addressing technical inquiries, answering the phone, and assisting with other administrative needs. Maintain the Center's calendar of events and meetings, and assist with scheduling. Manage and maintain the Center's contacts database, assist the team in creating contact lists for various events and mailings, and support the Director of External Affairs with various digital communications campaigns throughout the year. Coordinate logistics for conferences, internal events, webinars, and meetings, and support the Chief of Staff with external events such as the Furman Center's annual State of New York City's Housing and Neighborhoods report release. Assist the Chief of Staff, communications, operations, and project teams with planning, logistics, scheduling, communications, research tasks, and special projects.
Minimum Qualifications :
A bachelor's degree and experience working in an office Impeccable attention to detail Ability to multitask and respond to shifting priorities Comfort working both independently and collaboratively Creativity, initiative, and strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills Excellent writing/editing/proofreading capabilities Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion A team player with a good sense of humor, a love of people and positive office culture, and a curiosity about the world
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with event planning, scheduling, communications, and/or office management Familiarity with Salesforce, Mailchimp, Asana, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other publication tools An interest in learning about cities, public policy, and housing
Compensation and Benefits :
The position comes with a salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement contributions, and paid time off. Further information regarding benefits can be found on NYU's benefits website . In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $55,000-65,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
Location and Timing :
This is a hybrid role. The Operations and Program Assistant should expect to spend at least three days per week in our New York City office, including days on which we have staff meetings and events. This position is expected to begin as soon as possible during Summer 2026.
