Job Description
The Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is seeking a SSBCI State Lending Program Director to lead and manage a portfolio of small business financing programs that expand access to capital for Alaska small businesses. This role is responsible for overseeing loan participation, loan guarantee, and equity programs funded through the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). You'll work closely with lenders, partners, and stakeholders across Alaska to deploy capital effectively, ensure program compliance, and support small business growth. This position also plays a key role in outreach, working with lenders and communities statewide to increase awareness and participation in SSBCI programs. If you're looking for an opportunity to shape how capital reaches small businesses in Alaska and want to be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team, we encourage you to apply. As the SSBCI State Lending Program Assistant Director, you will assist with all facets of small business lending and capital deployment programs, including loan and investment structures, federal compliance requirements, and reporting standards. You will utilize strong business acumen with expertise to produce financial statement analysis, risk assessment, economic and accounting principles, banking practices, and lending program administration, particularly related to SSBCI Loan Programs and U.S. Department of Treasury initiatives. In this role, you will oversee program administration, funding management, strategic planning, and project implementation while ensuring compliance with all Treasury Department provisions and requirements. You will apply exceptional analytical, organizational, negotiation, and communication skills to synthesize complex information into comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders, advisory boards, and federal agencies. The position requires strong leadership and interpersonal abilities, including public speaking, customer service, diplomacy, conflict resolution, and stakeholder engagement, while effectively managing multiple projects and agreements concurrently. You will also develop and maintain professional networks, analyze complex situations, propose viable solutions, and implement policies and procedures that support program success. Proficiency with computerized tools and business software, including G Suite Apps, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Excel, and GoToMeeting/Webinar, is essential to support program operations, reporting, and communication. To thrive in this role, candidates should bring strong experience in commercial lending, small business finance, and credit analysis, with the ability to evaluate loan applications, financial statements, and collateral effectively. Success in the position requires familiarity with SBA lending programs such as 7(a) and 504, as well as an understanding of compliance and reporting requirements associated with federal and state capital deployment programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong relationship-building and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with lenders, advisory boards, and external stakeholders. Experience working with financial institutions in Alaska or similar markets and an understanding of the unique financing challenges faced by small businesses are highly valuable. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to manage complex programs, develop policies and procedures, support outreach and training efforts, and adapt to occasional meetings outside standard business hours.
