In this role, you will play a vital part in fostering a nurturing and structured learning environment for young children, particularly those with developmental disabilities and autism. Your expertise in behavioral therapy and applied behavior analysis (ABA) will help support children's growth, development, and independence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children's lives while working alongside a passionate team committed to excellence in special education and patient care. Working primarily in preschool settings, the Support Teacher supports students through direct intervention, development of individualized materials, and collaboration with families and other therapists and educators. While primarily school-based, in some situations, Support Teachers may work at home to implement a transition plan to facilitate a child's adjustment to the school environment. This role (30-40 hours per week) requires flexibility, energy, a positive and outgoing nature, team spirit, and reliable transportation. A minimum commitment of one year is requested.
BASIC DUTIES
Instructional Assistance:
Support classroom activities by motivating children to learn using the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) methodology, conducting small group and individualized teaching sessions, and accurately recording data.
Program Development:
Assist in the implementation of daily and weekly teaching plans, culturally appropriate activities, and programs based on ECB curriculum.
Child Supervision:
Ensure the safety and well-being of children by providing constant supervision, assisting with toileting, feeding, and other self-help skills as needed.
Behavioral Support:
Implement behavioral strategies according to individualized plans, using positive reinforcement and least restrictive techniques.
Identifying and Assessing Students:
Collaborate with teachers to identify and assess students requiring additional support, including those with autism.
Individualized Support:
Provide one-on-one or small group instruction, using strategies coming from G-ESDM and ESDM and tailored to each student's needs, and differentiate plans to ensure effective learning outcomes.
Collaboration:
Work closely with supervisors, teachers, administrators, parents, and specialists to develop and implement individualized learning plans that meet the diverse needs of students.
Developing Plans and Lessons:
Assist in creating lesson plans that address the unique learning challenges of each student, focusing on core subjects and critical developmental milestones.
Transition Support:
In some situations, provide in-home support to implement transition plans for students moving into a school setting.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Daily Planning Time:
Support Teachers are allocated daily time to fulfill session notes, data collection, and planning duties, ensuring that all documentation is thorough and accurate.
Weekly Team Meetings:
Engage in weekly meetings focused on team planning, ensuring that all educators and specialists are aligned on student goals and strategies.
STAFF SUPERVISION/EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
Team coordination of the G-ESDM roles in the classroom. Team coordination Data Taking for each individual and group plan.
COMMUNICATION AND LEADERSHIP
Collaborative Support:
Partner with the Lead Teacher to assess children's development using tools like the ESDM Curriculum Checklist and Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP). Assist in maintaining accurate portfolios and confidential client files.
Administrative Duties:
Complete required administrative tasks, including time sheets, incident reports, and maintaining accurate attendance records.
Professional Development:
Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and conferences. Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate loyalty to the program's educational philosophy.
