First Grade Teaching Assistant Charleston Day School - 3.5 Charleston, SC Job Details Part-time 19 hours ago Qualifications School experience Elementary Education Bachelor's degree Working with students Student support Full Job Description Charleston Day School seeks an energetic and engaged educator to serve as a part-time (approximately 12 -15 hours per week) assistant teacher in a first-grade classroom beginning in August 2026. The teacher is expected to help the first grade lead teacher create a classroom environment that reflects and promotes the mission of Charleston Day School, and to work collaboratively with others on the team and school staff to promote the general well-being of the Lower School and the school community. Expectations:
Works with students to help reinforce learning objectives in an engaging way. Fosters routines and procedures in clear, concise ways to create conditions for positive student behavior. Promotes a respectful, kind, positive classroom community. Uses appropriate judgement to act in the best interest of students at all times. Integrates academics with the teaching of social and emotional skills in an active learning environment. Demonstrates cognitive flexibility in a setting where disengaging from one task and responding effectively to another task is essential. Participates with other faculty and staff to support the mission of Charleston Day School. Adheres to all Charleston Day School policies and procedures with professionalism and competence.
Job Skills & Requirements:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree with a major in elementary education, science, mathematics or language arts preferred Organized, capable and able to multitask Enthusiastic, joyful and engaged team player Growth mindset
