Job Title:
In-school Suspension Paraprofessional
Contract Days:
182 Reports to: Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Teacher
Qualifications:
Associates degree, two years of college, or pass basic skills and Pedagogy (Work Keys Paraprofessional) or TABE Test Prior experience working with children preferred History of previous job experience required Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Function:
To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class a whole. Or To assist the teacher in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resources needed.
Performance Responsibilities:
Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher Supervision of students Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students Checks notebooks, correct papers, and supervises testing and make up work as assigned by the teacher Checks and records student attendance Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student Serves as the chief source of information and help to students assigned to ISS Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of a fully licensed teachers Participants in in-service training programs, as assigned Understands and actively supports the school's renewal plan through the activities and duties of the assigned management Supervisors may assign other duties as needed
