Position Overview:
To serve Christ and His Kingdom by walking alongside students in grades 6-9, ensuring they are building core knowledge and skills and growing in self-efficacy while being known and supported. This role partners with Upper School faculty, Guidance, and the Exceptional Education staff to cultivate a learning environment where each student can grow academically and spiritually. Through implementing targeted academic intervention and intentional support, the paraprofessional helps bridge gaps in learning, reinforces classroom instruction, and fosters a culture of accountability, confidence, and belonging.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with the intervention Assistant teacher, classroom teachers, Guidance, and Exceptional Education staff to provide appropriate support for students to avoid prolonged academic difficulties. Provide structure, organization, and warm accountability to build responsibility and study skills in students during morning work, intervention support, and focus periods. Facilitate one-on-one or small group instruction of provided lessons. Collaborate with Guidance and Exceptional Education staff to holistically meet the needs of each child. Pursue professional excellence by actively participating in professional development and embracing a spirit of continuous learning. Value effective instruction and high expectations for all students. Perform other duties as expected, such as lunch duty, supervision, or carpool duties. Paraprofessionals are not expected to grade papers, plan lessons, or communicate with parents about behavior and / or academics. Faith in Jesus Christ, a commitment to the mission of Chattanooga Christian School, and support of the reformed tradition of education. Knowledge of Scripture and its application to all of life, particularly pedagogy, school community, and related disciplines. Educational experience, with a background in middle/high school education and previous teaching experience preferred. A Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or related field. Ability to collaborate well with colleagues in all areas of education including planning, assessment, student care, and student life. Ability to work effectively with a variety of learners. Understanding of and ability to meet the discipleship and developmental needs of students. Ability to communicate graciously and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to exercise discretion and utmost professionalism in confidential and sensitive student/family matters.

Requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend. Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects. Requires the ability to stand for extended periods. Requires the ability to walk long distances. Requires lifting, pushing, and/or pulling which does not exceed twenty-five pounds and is an infrequent aspect of the job. Is subject to normal inside and outside environmental conditions. Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position.
