Gleason School is seeking applicants for an Educational Assistant in the Special Education program. The E.A. will be assisting students during class and in small groups. Successful candidates will either have 48 hours of successful college credits or a passing score on the EA Exam. WCS offers this exam in our office.

Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to assist teachers in classroom activities with students. Duties and responsibilities include providing instructional assistance and support services to teachers, students, and/or staff.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 48 hours of successful college credits or a passing score on the Weakley County Paraprofessional Exam. WCS offers this exam in our office at no cost.
- Experience in the area assigned preferred
Essential Functions or Duties
- The E.A. will be assisting children with RTI and working with classroom teachers to help with instruction.
- The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Assist in the office
- Assist with preparation of materials for teachers and students
- Monitor students in hallways, lunchroom, classrooms, etc.
- Monitor classwork or assist students with assignments as needed or directed by the teacher
- Escort students to and from classrooms
- Assist in checking student work
- Assist in make-up exams, supervising oral exams and exam taking, and other duties to support classroom and state testing
- Supervise class in teacher's absence and may substitute for short periods when substitutes are unavailable
- Read stories aloud to children to enhance their reading skills; may play educational games with children to improve skills
- Provide clerical support such as copying, laminating, filing, delivering messages, setting up and operating technology, and helping in the office.
- Assist in daily cleaning of classroom

- Interact professionally and effectively with students, parents/guardians, coworkers, administrators, and members of the public.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality of student, personnel, and district information.
- Follow all safety procedures and report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions in a timely manner.
- Use district equipment, technology, and resources appropriately and in support of assigned duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or administrators.
- Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Physical Demands
This job may require lifting objects that exceed 20 pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:
