The person in this position should have a deep appreciation for, patience with, and respect for all students. Our ideal candidate has experience with students this age, an interest in education, and a desire to continually grow in their position. The Assistant will work under the direction of a certified Montessori Lead Guide in a mixed-age classroom. This person will work with the Lead Guide to become knowledgeable with both Montessori and Positive Discipline terminology, philosophy, and methods. The person in this position will: Follow the direction of the Lead Guide during the students' uninterrupted work period to promote a calm, productive atmosphere Engage in problem-solving and planning with the Lead Guide Encourage the students to be independent Model appropriate manners and behaviors Assist the Lead Guide in offering students a beautifully prepared environment Daily preparation and restoration of the environment including basic cleaning tasks, organizing, copying, and laminating Plan and implement small groups Observe with purpose during students' work time Supervise outdoor free playtime in all weather conditions Mediate discussions between students Help students with small animal care Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, families, and co-workers Engage in ongoing professional development through workshops, conferences, webinars, book study, and staff development initiatives Nature's Way provides a wonderful atmosphere for a person to grow personally and professionally.
