JOB GOAL
To be the teacher's assistant. To help the teacher achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups, making every effort to help them accomplish the skill levels of the class as a whole. To provide a well-organized, smoothly functional class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the teacher according to the teacher's needs
Makes needed copies of classroom materials
Monitors students during classroom and play activities
Reads aloud or listens to children read
Prepares instructional materials and sets up equipment
Provides special help such as drilling with flash cards, spelling and play activities
Assists students at meal periods
Provides for students' physical needs as required and/or assigned
Maintains a clean and orderly classroom
Assist students from buses, to restroom facilities, etc.
Escorts students on educational trips outside the classroom with the teacher and other appropriate adult support
Assists students in performing activities that have been initiated by the teacher
Assists with supplementary work for advanced pupils
Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work assigned by the teacher
Assists in setting up classrooms
Assists children in learning their names, addresses, telephone numbers, birthdays and parents' names
Hears requests for help, observes learning difficulties from pupils and reports such matters to teachers
Works with individual students or small groups on language development as outlined by the teacher
Serves as a bus monitor in transport of students as requested and/or needed
In upper grades the aide will work with assigned students as scheduled by the Campus Principal
In upper grades the aide will also be assigned to before and after school supervision and lunch duties
Performs such other duties as assigned by the Campus Principal or the supervising teacher.
