JOB SUMMARY

Assists in the management, discipline, performance and teaching of students and any other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in teaching students in small groups or individualized settings Implements classroom management procedures in absence or at the request of the teacher Assists students with personal hygiene needs /toileting Assists with feeding Meets Buses that transport students Lifts students in and out of wheelchairs and adaptive equipment Performs related duties as required

Tools/Equipment Used:

Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture:

Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Frequent walking

Lifting:

Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment:

Work is located in a classroom environment; must have ability to move from one location to another throughout the district; regular exposure to noise

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training beyond high school in child development is preferred. One year experience in working with children is preferred Texas Paraprofessional Certificate is required.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

Skills in typing, basic computer and clerical skills. Knowledge of all regular education subjects. Ability to be flexible and creative. Be able to perform under pressure and stress. Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to use typewriter, computer, adding machine and copier.
