Primary Purpose:
To assist

teacher as they assist students in learning content and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of school district organization, operations, and administrative policies Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills Demonstrate interest in and aptitude for work to be performed Computer skills preferred Ability to multi-task activities
Experience:
Experience working with students with disabilities
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management Provide explicit instruction to small groups of students using a lesson plan designed by the teacher. Monitor, assist with and reinforce learning while teacher is providing whole group instruction. Collect and record data related to students' IEP objectives and educational plans. Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral and written communication and reading instruction with students. Support classroom teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment and maintaining student discipline. Help students master instructional materials assigned by teachers. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers. Participate in in-service training programs as assigned. Assume the responsibility for instruction when the teacher is out of the room for training. Meet regularly with

teacher to discuss student progress and plan for instruction. May be assigned to perform other responsibilities by the campus administrator outside the

instructional and planning times: Perform the following personal hygiene functions when assigned per students' needs: bathing/cleaning; clothes changing; diapering; feeding; maintaining facial hair; maintaining menstrual hygiene; maintaining nasal hygiene; and toileting and/or toilet training. Perform the following medically related services when assigned per students' needs, following training by a nurse: cleaning catheter; tube-feeding; suctioning; lifting/transferring (minimum of 50 lbs); monitoring seizure activity; and performing cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Perform the following physical/behavioral management procedures when assigned per students' needs: administering therapeutic holds; administering physical restraints; monitoring scheduled reinforcement; monitoring students who are in isolation; escorting for students with visual impairments (Orientation & Mobility); and transferring students in wheelchairs and/or other mobility devices. Perform the following specialized services when assigned per students' needs: transcribing Braille; monitoring augmentative communication devices; utilizing facilitated communication; and supervising students during community-based instruction. Other Comply with policies established by federal and state laws and regulations, and local board policy. Maintain confidentiality. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

Salary Range Min. $23,932 Mid. $27,988 Max. $32,045 (Based on previous experience) Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school. Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days, the salary will be less.
