Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Assistant Preschool Teacher to join our VOTL Preschool education team. The ideal candidate will partner with the Lead Teacher to create a nurturing, developmentally appropriate classroom grounded in Christian values and aligned with state childcare standards. The Assistant Teacher models Christian living, actively participates in spiritual growth opportunities, and helps foster strong relationships with children, families, and staff. Key responsibilities include assisting with daily instruction, supervising children with care and intention, supporting social‑emotional learning through the Conscious Discipline framework, and maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom environment. This position requires flexibility as the preschool grows, adherence to Texas childcare regulations, ongoing professional development, and participation in required school and church events throughout the year. Previous experience in early childhood education is preferred but not required.
Position Requirements:
 Meets Teacher qualifications as set by the State of Texas in the Minimum Standards for
Child-Care Centers:
Be at least 18 years of age and Have a high school diploma, High school equivalent, or High school certificate of coursework completion as defined in Texas Education Code, §28.025. No history of criminal activity (relating to Background Checks); Have a current record of a tuberculosis examination, showing the employee is free of contagious TB, if required by the Texas Department of State Health Services or local health authority; and Complete a notarized Affidavit for Applicants for Employment with a Licensed Operation or Registered Child-Care Home (Form 2985); and Complete a Pre-Employment Affidavit for Applicants for Employment at Certain Child Care Operations (Form 2912)

This would include, but are not limited to: Educating children ages 2 yrs to 5yrs in a classroom setting Assisting in daily transitions between classrooms Subbing for the Lead Teacher in certain circumstances. Responsibilities as an Educational Leader within your classroom: Maintain a professional and caring classroom environment conducive to learning and Developmentally Appropriate Practices as defined by NAEYC. Maintain child/staff ratios regulated by the State of Texas in the Minimum Standards for Child-Care Centers . Provide for the basic needs of the students in your care. Provide for the social and emotional needs of the students in your care. Provide direct supervision of the children in the classroom as well as using effective and appropriate classroom management strategies using the Conscious Discipline approach to social and emotional learning. Interact with the children in a positive, nurturing manner, building a relationship of trust and fostering a loving relationship with the children and their families. Help with general housekeeping tasks, such as prepare tables for snacks and lunch, clean up after snack and lunch, clean up after art, sweeping to maintain safety, etc. Follow the school discipline and positive guidance policy when redirecting a child from negative behavior. Attend required training as required by the State of Texas in the Minimum Standards for Child-Care Centers. Participate in professional growth activities on an ongoing basis.
