TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service, and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. For more information, please visit https://www.tamiu.edu/ This is a non-tenure track Instructional Assistant Professor (fixed term; 9-month faculty position; over 3 academic years; possibility of renewal, depending on performance and/or institutional needs). Primary duties will include teaching undergraduate dance courses, including technique, choreography, and theory, while maintaining excellence in studio and classroom instruction. Develop course materials, assess student learning, and provide mentoring and academic advising. Choreograph and/or direct departmental performances and participate in production activities. Contribute to curriculum development and program initiatives. Engage in departmental, college, and university service. Support student recruitment and retention efforts. Duties also include recruiting students and applying for external funding to support student activities. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. Texas A&M International University's minor in dance resides within the Department of Fine and Performing Arts of the College of Arts and Sciences. The department also houses undergraduate programs in art, music, and theater. Required Qualifications The successful candidate must hold a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance with a focus on Flamenco and Folklorico from an accredited institution. Demonstrated success in teaching dance at the collegiate or professional level, with ability to instruct multiple techniques such as ballet, modern, jazz, or contemporary is a plus. Professional experience as a performer, choreographer, or dance artist is required. Evidence of effective teaching, strong communication skills, and engagement with students of various backgrounds is essential. We strongly encourage candidates with the ability to acquire external funding. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
