  • Part-time Job Summary The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in implementing Montessori principles and practices in a Primary classroom (ages 3-6).
The Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining a calm, orderly, and engaging environment, fostering independence, respect, and curiosity in every child. This position requires patience, professionalism, and a deep respect for the Montessori method of education. Key Responsibilities Classroom Support Assist the Lead Teacher in preparing, organizing, and maintaining Montessori materials and the classroom environment. Support individual and small-group learning as guided by the Lead Teacher. Help guide children in developing independence, concentration, and respect for themselves, others, and their environment. Ensure that daily routines (arrival, dismissal, transitions, meals, rest time, and outdoor play) run smoothly. Observation & Guidance Observe children daily and communicate observations to the Lead Teacher. Provide gentle redirection and consistent support for positive behavior. Model grace, courtesy, and respect in all interactions with children and adults. Health & Safety Supervise children to ensure their safety and well-being at all times. Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming classroom environment. Follow school health, safety, and emergency procedures. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with the Lead Teacher and staff to maintain a positive and professional team environment. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events. Communicate with parents only at the direction of the Lead Teacher or administration, always with professionalism and respect. Qualifications Previous experience working with children ages 3-6 required; Montessori classroom experience strongly preferred. Montessori Assistant certification or willingness to pursue Montessori training. High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively while also taking initiative when appropriate. Warm, patient, and flexible personality with a genuine passion for supporting young learners.
