Assistant Teacher/ Floater Daystar Children's Center Alexandria, VA Job Details Temporary | Part-time From $16 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Professional networking Outdoor work Caregiving Organizational skills Manual handling Full Job Description Teacher Assistant / Summer Floater Job Description We are seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic Teacher Assistant / Summer Floater to join our team for the summer program. The ideal candidate will support lead teachers in creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. Responsibilities Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate curriculum and activities that support all areas of children's development. Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment. Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children in the classroom, on the playground, during field trips, and throughout the campus. Maintain ongoing, positive, and professional communication with parents and caregivers. Foster strong relationships with families and encourage parent involvement within the classroom environment. Support children in transitioning smoothly from home to the childcare setting. Provide a developmentally appropriate environment that reflects and supports children's learning and growth. Assist children with daily routines, including diaper changing, restroom assistance, meals, and nap time. Float between classrooms as needed to support staffing and classroom coverage. Assist with setting up and cleaning up for Water Days and various indoor and outdoor summer activities. Help prepare activity materials, organize supplies, and maintain cleanliness after activities and events. Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to ensure a positive and supportive learning environment. Qualifications Experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting preferred. Ability to work well with children, families, and team members. Strong communication and organizational skills. Must be dependable, patient, nurturing, and energetic. Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and move around easily throughout the day while actively supervising children. Ability to meet the physical demands of working with young children, including lifting, bending, and active supervision. Must be willing to get a tuberculosis screening done Must be willing to complete a fingerprint-based criminal record check Must be willing to complete a Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check Must be willing to obtain CPR/AED/First aid certification for adults, children, and infants before start date Schedule Seasonal/Summer Position Part-time Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
