Job Description
Assistant Teacher Reports To:
Preschool Director Position Summary The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. The Assistant Teacher helps implement classroom activities, supervises children, and assists with daily routines, ensuring that each child's needs are met in alignment with the mission and values of the church preschool.Key Responsibilities:
Support the Lead Teacher in daily classroom activities Assist with supervision, transitions, and routines Engage positively with children Help maintain classroom cleanliness and safety Follow guidance from the Lead Teacher and Director Assistant Teacher Qualifications Policy I.Minimum Education Requirement Assistant Teachers must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Personal Character and Professional Expectations Assistant Teachers must: Be of good character and professional reputation Demonstrate genuine love, care, and concern for young children Show understanding of the emotional, social, and developmental needs of preschool-aged children Support a nurturing, respectful, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment aligned with the mission of BUMP Preschool II. Communication Skills Assistant Teachers must be able to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with children, families, and staff Demonstrate basic written communication skills for documentation and classroom communication Work cooperatively as part of a teaching team and follow direction from Lead Teachers and program leadership III. Professional Responsibilities Assistant Teachers are expected to: Assist with daily classroom routines and activities Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment Follow all program policies and Virginia licensing requirements Always maintain confidentiality Participating in required training and professional development IV. Program Values All teaching staff must support the values of BUMP Preschool, including: Respect for each child as a unique individual Commitment to safety and nurturing care Positive family and staff relationships Teamwork and professionalism in all interactions All staff members are expected to: Collaborate effectively with coworkers and leadership Communicate clearly and respectfully Support program decisions and classroom transitions Maintain a team-oriented approach to problem-solving Model Christian values in professionalJob Type:
