Job Description:
Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Director of Career Pathways and Student Support (GA046) in the Center for Career Success. The Assistant Director plays a critical role in advancing Longwood University's mission to empower all students to pursue meaningful career pathways. This position provides direct student support, manages key career-readiness programs and resources, and collaborates closely with campus partners to strengthen Longwood's comprehensive approach to career success. The Assistant Director oversees student-facing services within the Center for Career Success, including delivery of high-impact career coaching and support services, administration of experiential learning financial support programs, and supervision of graduate assistants and student workers. This position reports to the Senior Director of Career & Professional Engagement and serves as a core member of the Career Success Team. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide individualized career coaching services to help students explore career pathways aligned with their strengths, professional goals, and experiential learning opportunities. Deliver support for priority student populations, including first-generation and Pell-eligible students. Facilitate student appointments on a variety of career topics including: career exploration, professional document and online profile development, job and internship search, graduate school preparation, professional networking, and the Dress for Success Career Closet. Regularly update Center for Career Success coaching materials and resources, including web content, print resources, presentations, and student guides as needed. Maintain and update Career Center managed LinkedIn groups. Manage the Center for Career Success' financial support offerings such as stipend programs that help students participate in career-exploratory experiences such as mentorship, work shadows, micro-internships, and internships. Ensure strong application processes, compliance with policies and grants, student communication, and accurate tracking of funds and student outcomes. Supervise graduate assistants and student workers, including daily front desk management, training, scheduling, performance support, and oversight of service delivery. Ensure high-quality student support appointments, frontline services, and effective use of career development tools and resources. Oversee student engagement through the Handshake Platform ensuring effective scheduling of appointments, student usage of the platform, communication, and accurate job and internship postings. Serve as a key member of the Career Success Team to advance departmental goals, support major events such as career fairs and professional networking meet and greets, and contribute to strategic initiatives related to student career readiness.
Requirements:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Higher Education, Counseling, Human Services, Business, Psychology, or related discipline). Experience supporting college students through advising, coaching, or student success services. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively.
Preferred:
Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field. Experience supervising student employees or graduate assistants. Experience working in a University Career Center with knowledge of career development theory, experiential learning, and high-impact practices. Familiarity with Handshake or similar career services platforms.

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
