Part Time Additional Detail Job Description:
Virginia Peninsula Community College changes lives, empowers students to succeed, and enhances the social and economic vitality of the region through high-quality education and workforce training, excellent service, and innovative partnerships. The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is an integral part of the academic units that report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The LRC advances the mission of the college through a comprehensive, readily accessible collection of VPCC curriculum related informational materials, instructional technologies, and other academic support services that meet the educational needs of students, faculty, and staff. Provides individual and small group instruction, assistance, and resources to currently enrolled students who encounter math-related problems in their VPCC courses. This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge Demonstrated understanding of mathematics foundations (arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics) necessary for success in associates degrees and certificate level career and technical programs and courses. Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software, databases, and electronic communications. Proficiency with graphing calculators. Skills Excellent communication and strong listening skills Excellent interpersonal and time management skills. Analytic problem-solving skills. Proficiency with graphing calculators. Abilities Ability to create a safe and engaging learning environment. Patience, flexibility, ability to vary teaching methods and resources according to student needs. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate with a team. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend hours. Required Demonstrated math teaching and/or tutorial experience at the high school or two-year college level. Demonstrated understanding of the pedagogical principles in working with adult learners and underserved populations. Experience working with adult learners and underserved populations. Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
Additional Considerations:
Additional Considerations (preferred-nice to have, but not essential to carrying out the day-to-day functions of the job) Experience in a community college setting. Experience with scheduling and tutor administration software such as Navigate and Brainfuse. Experience with math instructional systems such as My Math Lab.
