Job Description

The Department of Neighborhood Services promotes the social, physical, and economic resilience of Norfolk communities by engaging residents, neighborhood organizations and businesses and working with them to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods. Neighborhood Services promotes and supports civic participation, community partnerships, accessibility to city services, and seeks to preserve and enhance the character of Norfolk's neighborhoods. Rent Ready Norfolk (RRN) is a free, voluntary and comprehensive rental education and support program designed to inform landlords, property managers and tenants about how to be a good landlord/neighbor and maintain residential rental property qualities and standards. The City of Norfolk's Department of Neighborhood Services is currently seeking a Program Assistant to assist with managing activities of the Rent Ready Norfolk Program. The Program Assistant will assist the RRN Program Administrator with course development, marketing, performance tracking, and expanding program impact. This position requires a candidate with strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to assist with facilitating general rental courses as well as engage with the public at community events and meetings. This position also requires someone who can work independently and as part of a team to assist in managing the RentingSmart Academy by confirming speakers, scheduling courses throughout the year, and helping establish new and engaging courses that support an improved understanding of the Virginia Residential Tenant and Landlord (VRLTA) for tenants and landlords. The ideal candidate will be able to navigate a performance tracking system that captures data related to program participants, registrations, course offerings, and certification status. Managing emails and voicemails by direct response or routing to the RRN Program Administrator. Researching new course topics and scheduling instructors for the RentingSmart Academy. Using the Rent Ready Norfolk system to monitor performance and track progress of both the Rent Ready Norfolk program and RentingSmart Academy. Working with the RRN Program Administrator to promote the Rent Ready Program. Assist with drafting presentations, marketing materials, maps, and other supporting documents for meetings with city staff, civic leagues, taskforces, RentingSmart Academy workshops, and other groups as required. Tracking the inventory of RRN promotional materials and identifying new items to highlight the program. Spanish speaking candidate preferred. All other duties assigned. Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Required:
One year of experience in office administration, program support, property management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
Two years of experience in office administration, program support, property management, or a related field. Experience with Fair Housing, property management, housing counseling, or a related housing field. Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment. Housing Counseling Certification preferred.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position WILL require occasional work on weekends and during the evening hours.
