Role:
We are seeking an experienced Montessori Education Consultant to support the implementation of Montessori principles within our memory care community. In this role, you will help us transition and elevate our care models by applying authentic Montessori principles to dementia and memory care programming. You will observe our facility, audit our environments, and directly train our clinical and care staff on how to implement Montessori methods to foster independence, dignity, and meaningful engagement for our residents. If you are a seasoned Montessori professional with experience adapting the pedagogy for eldercare and adult learning, we would love to collaborate with you.
Responsibilities:
Facility & Environment Observation:
Conduct thorough observations of our memory care units, assessing environmental cues, signage, accessibility, and material availability to maximize resident independence.
Staff Instruction & Training:
Design and lead workshops for our care staff on Montessori-based dementia programming (e.g., creating prepared environments, broken down task analysis, and role based engagement).
Resident Engagement Audits:
Review current resident schedules and activities to inject Montessoribased sensory, cognitive, and physical tasks into their daily routines.
Actionable Feedback:
Provide administrative and nursing leadership with clear, actionable recommendations and structured feedback to ensure long term program fidelity.
Requirements:
Certification:
Must hold a recognized Montessori certification (AMS, AMI, MACTE, or equivalent) AND/OR specific certification in Montessori for Aging and Dementia (e.g., Center for Applied Research in Dementia / AMI Certified Practitioner).
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience working within a Montessori framework. Direct experience applying these methods in a senior living, memory care, or dementia care setting is highly preferred.
Adult Education:
Proven ability to coach, train, and inspire adult learners (nurses, aides, and activity directors).
Compassion & Expertise:
Deep understanding of cognitive decline, dementia progression, and how the \"prepared environment\" can mitigate responsive behaviors.
