Burlington School District is seeking enthusiastic and student-centered EL Paraeducators to support newly arrived elementary-aged English Learner (EL)/multilingual students participating in the Summer Opportunities Academics & enRichment (SOAR) program. EL Paraeducators will work closely with classroom teachers to provide academic, social-emotional, and language-development support for students as they build familiarity with U.S. schools and strengthen their English language, literacy, and mathematics skills. Students will participate in a multi-age sheltered classroom environment designed specifically for recently arrived multilingual learners. Paraeducators will help foster a welcoming, inclusive learning environment while supporting classroom instruction, enrichment activities, and field trips throughout the five-week summer program.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meets Vermont paraeducator requirements or is otherwise qualified to work as a paraeducator in Vermont schools.
Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Commitment to work all five weeks of the summer program.
Preferred:
Experience working with English Learners/multilingual learners.
Experience working with elementary-aged students.
Experience in summer learning programs, after-school programs, or youth development settings.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Experience working with multilingual families, interpreters, or cultural liaisons.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to build positive relationships with students and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Understanding of strategies that support English language development and student engagement.
Ability to support students in a classroom setting while maintaining high expectations and a positive learning environment.
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
Dates and Position Hours:
In-Service Date:
(TBD), 1-3 days
Program Dates:
June 29th
- July 30th, M-Th, 5 weeks.
Hours:
32 hours/week, daily schedule 8 a.m.
- 3:30 p.m., Monday
- Thursday.
Position Type:
Seasonal Full-Time
Salary:
up to $24 Per Hour
