Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Substitute Assistant Teacher for our Nature Based Preschool. This role involves providing high-quality support to lead teachers, engaging with young children in an outdoor and nature-centered learning environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for early childhood education, experience working with children, and a strong understanding of childhood development. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a nurturing, innovative educational setting that emphasizes experiential learning and environmental awareness. Candidates must be willing to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. Responsibilities Assist lead teachers in implementing daily lesson plans aligned with curriculum goals, including literacy, math, and experiential activities. Support classroom management and behavior guidance to foster a positive learning environment. Engage children in outdoor activities that promote exploration, curiosity, and environmental stewardship. Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring safety and well-being at all times. Help with classroom organization, including preparing materials for activities and maintaining a clean learning space. Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff to support individual needs and developmental progress. Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate children with diverse needs, including those with autism or disabilities. Participate in curriculum development efforts focused on nature-based learning and early childhood education principles. Experience Prior experience working with young children in daycare, preschool, or private school settings is preferred. Knowledge of childhood development is essential. Experience with special education, behavior management, and working with children with disabilities or autism is highly desirable. Familiarity with preschool curricula and nature-based educational approaches will be considered an asset. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community partners are required. A substitute is at least eighteen (18) years of age, is able to comprehend basic written format, and is a high school graduate or has completed a GED. Must be willing to undergo a background check including fingerprinting.
