GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION PURPOSE A
disciple of Jesus who loves, respects, and relates well to small children with the ability to observe, listen, and respond to the needs of the children and to firmly, but positively redirect disruptive or distracted children. Willing to learn the educational methods used in the atrium.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES
Assists the CGS coordinator weekly in preparing supplies for the upcoming CGS atrium sessions. Prepares all supplies needed for the Celebration of Light. Prepares all supplies needed for two CGS First Holy Communion sacramental retreats. Prepares the Atrium prior to the session: fills water sources and ensures the atrium is tidy and shelves are in order.
During the session:
Prepares the atrium and maintain order within it, so that the atrium fosters concentration, silence, and contemplation in both the child and the adult catechists working within it. Presents key themes from the Bible and liturgy to the children. Sets an example by participating in any full group prayers or presentations. Meets the children's needs when asked or when required (lighting and tending candles, reading scripture, helping with bathroom breaks, art project help, etc.) Creates and sustains an atmosphere of prayer and concentration by redirecting children who become distracting or disruptive to others, helping distracted children find a work that interests them, and helping children ponder questions about God that lead them to prayer. Observe the children to discover their interests, personalities, and needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred CGS certified with willingness to further formation. A practicing Catholic and active member of a parish in good standing with the Church. Experience as a catechist and familiarity with CGS methodology and principles are preferred. Available to work a flexible schedule (days, evenings and weekends) Effective in verbal and written English Able to use time well Highly organized Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
