  • Program Assistant Overview
  • School Connect WA is seeking an innovative and dedicated professional to support the Site Director of a top-tier afterschool program designed to support low-income, BIPOC elementary students.
As the Program Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of all academic and enrichment initiatives. Your work will directly contribute to the academic advancement of each student, ensuring they graduate at or above grade level in literacy and math.
  • Experience
  • Candidates should have 1-2 years of experience working in academic focused afterschool programs or teaching elementary-aged students in a classroom setting. Strong interpersonal skills with both adults and students are essential for success in this role. Fluency in a second language is a valuable asset and will enhance your ability to connect with the diverse communities we serve.

Key connections that drive city-wide transformation: We connect churches to schools establishing long-term partnerships. Churches are essential community partners. School-Church partnerships empower congregations to impact their communities through love, justice, and serving the common good, We connect students to the academic and enrichment resources they need to succeed by providing affordable, high-quality afterschool programming. We connect organizations across all sectors of the city (e.g. local businesses, healthcare, arts, and technology, etc.) to their nearest Seattle Public School. When these "tables" gather around the needs of schools, they make a BIG impact.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Facilitates youth programming to achieve the following outcomes for youth: Educational progress: Guides educationally at-risk youth to make quarterly strides toward their academic goals.
Social-emotional development:
Helps children strengthen the skills and assets that support positive social-emotional growth.
Self-worth and agency:
Cultivates a strong sense of self-worth and agency by valuing students' cultural and personal identities.
Program Assistant Responsibilities:
Coordinate with Site Director to create lesson plans tailored to each student. Guide volunteers to provide high-impact tutoring. Lead academic/homework time, literacy activities, free choice/enrichment time, outdoor/physical activities and clean-up time. Record, and maintain student academic progress. Establish robust partnerships with teachers and staff at Rising Star Elementary School, facilitating the exchange of curriculum and resources to effectively address and close academic gaps. Oversee conflict resolution and behavioral issues with and between youth, with a focus on positive discipline, consistent consequences, restorative justice and the values of honesty, respect, safety, cooperation and responsibility. Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, cooperate and be able to successfully communicate with the Site Director, co-workers, volunteers, participants, and other service providers. Purchase necessary program supplies and food for the program.
Parent and Community Engagement:
Build trusting relationships with parents and guardians; encourage them to be involved in the program when available. Support quarterly Community Potluck Night that highlights student progress and cultural identity celebrations.
