  • Full-time The Goddard School of Central Seattle is looking for a compassionate and adaptable Support Teacher to join our team.
This role is also known as a "Floater" or Classroom Aide, because you will support multiple classrooms throughout the day wherever an extra hand is needed. If you love working with children of all ages (infants, toddlers, and preschoolers) and thrive in a flexible, team-oriented environment, this position is for you. As a Support Teacher, you'll be an integral part of maintaining our high-quality program
  • stepping in to assist lead and assistant teachers, ensuring ratios are met, and helping to create a safe, loving environment for our students.

Responsibilities & Expectations:
Classroom Assistance:
Provide coverage and support in any classroom as needed. You might start the day helping in an infant room, move to assist with lunch in a preschool class, and end the day reading stories to toddlers. Your flexibility ensures that each classroom runs smoothly even when teachers are on breaks or absent.
Child Supervision:
Always maintain vigilant supervision of children. Support Teachers help uphold our strict safety standards by maintaining proper child-to-teacher ratios at all times and monitoring transitions (e.g., helping toddlers get to the playground safely, or supervising a napping infant). Help with
Activities:
Jump in to engage with children in play and learning activities. You may assist with art projects, sing songs during circle time, or build block towers on the floor
  • whatever helps the lead teachers and keeps children happily learning.
Being hands-on and enthusiastic is key.
Routine Care:
Support the daily caregiving tasks in each room. This can include diapering, potty-training support, meal/snack prep and cleanup, and tidying up toys and materials. You ensure that each classroom remains clean, orderly, and ready for the next activity or group.
Team Collaboration:
Work under the direction of the Lead Teachers and school Directors to meet the needs of the day. Communicate any observations or issues to the classroom teachers (for example, if you notice a child isn't feeling well or a supply is running low). You are a reliable extra set of eyes, ears, and hands for the whole school team.
Adaptability:
Adapt quickly to different classroom environments and age groups. For example, you might use a gentle, soothing approach in the infant room and an energetic, playful approach in the pre-K room. Being comfortable with all ages and ready to step into any lesson or routine is important.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED is required. You must be at least 18 years of age (per state regulations for working with children) (WAC 110-300-0100).
Experience:
Some prior experience with children is preferred (this could be babysitting, volunteering, or previous work in a daycare/preschool). The ideal candidate is eager to learn and may be exploring a career in early childhood education. We will provide training, so a positive attitude and willingness to grow are more important than lengthy experience.
State Licensing Compliance:
Must meet basic Washington state WAC requirements for childcare aides/assistants. This includes passing a background check, having a negative TB test, and completing the DCYF's initial safety trainings (WAC 110-300-0100). If you haven't taken the 30-hour STARS basic training yet, you should be willing to complete it within your first 6 months (we can help guide you through this).
Physical & Safety Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and remain active throughout the day (playing on the floor, lifting toddlers, pushing a stroller, etc.). You should be able to respond quickly to emergencies and follow all safety protocols. CPR/First Aid certification is required (if you don't have it yet, we will assist you in obtaining it promptly).
Personal Qualities:
Flexible, patient, and team-oriented. You should be comfortable taking direction from different teachers and adjusting to changing plans. A genuine love for working with infants and young children is a must
  • you will be caring for our littlest ones with gentleness and warmth.
Good communication skills and a friendly demeanor are important for fitting into our team and talking with parents as needed.
