DESCRIPTION
The Paraeducator under direct supervision of the teacher and building principal will assist the classroom teacher in providing instruction and supervision of developmentally delayed, basic education and Title I pre-school age children in a variety of instructional and non-instructional settings.

QUALIFICATIONS
The integrated preschool paraeducator is required to have the equivalent of two years of college or be willing to take and pass a competency test. The assistant should be proficient or willing to learn computer skills and keyboarding.
Desired Qualifications:
Must be bilingual in Spanish/English. Willingness or desire to work with children with developmental delays. Have or be willing to obtain a Food Handlers Permit. Willing to be trained to use health related aids/assistive technology. (feeding tube, voice activated devices) Demonstrate responsible behavior and independent work habits. Reports to: The integrated preschool teacher and the special education director/ building principal

RESPONSIBILITIES
The ability to relate in a positive manner with children, supervisory staff, parents and other teachers. (Team player) Work with children 1 x 1, or in small groups, as directed by the teacher. Make home visits with the teacher and act as an interpreter when necessary. Assist the teacher in developmental screens, evaluations and meetings with parents and staff. Ability to work patiently and calmly with students who exhibit challenging behaviors. Assist with the hygiene of students. Change diapers and assist in toileting. Assist with preschool age and other Elementary students (on the non-preschool day) as needed according to the Title I Schoolwide Building plan and Needs Assessment. Assist in the supervision of students in a classroom, playground and lunchroom, or where applicable. Escort students from class, if necessary. Serve as a good role model. Reinforce the teacher's directions, activity or skill to be practiced. Perform other duties as requested by the classroom teachers or building principals concerning special education students. Remain confidential regarding school matters such as paperwork, student conduct and family matters.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working area will be in multiple locations depending on the needs of the students. Provide assistance in the educational needs of students. Provide assistance in the preparation and maintenance of educational materials. Provide assistance in the supervision of students including escorting students to and from classes. Provide assistance in the reinforcement of the teacher's directions, activities or skills to be practiced. Assignment will be determined on the needs of the students and is subject to change when the needs of the students change.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students. The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
